The route from Glacier National Park to Mt Rainier is posted, follow the link in the image below. The historic route travelled over to Seattle, then double back to Mt Rainier, as there was no east entrance in 1920. Today, we can save 200 miles by entering the park from the east. This is one of our longest drives.
Leg three route is detailed below. Click through the image to access the GoogleMap. The historic route included shipping vehicles by railroad from East Glacier Park to West Glacier (Belton). On our modern day route, we have the option to cross the park via the Going-to-the-Sun Road, which opened in 1933.
Leg two takes us from Rocky Mountain National Park to Yellowstone National Park. Detailed route information is available on Google Maps, click through the link below.
Participants: Leg one information is available on Google Maps. Leg one starts at Denver's Overland Park for the short drive to Rocky Mountain National Park.
Overland Park in Denver was once a racetrack, purchased by the city in 1919 to create an "auto camp" to welcome tourist who were beginning to arrive in automobiles. At this fitting location, the Park-to-Park Highway dedication tour departed amid much fanfare on August 26, 1920. Following a nearly identical route over modern roads, the planned distance for leg one is only 79 miles, estimated to take a bit more than 2 hours. The map liked above also includes the locations of resupply points near park entrance, sights of interest within the park, and locations for emergency assistance.
